Automotive Window Tinting
Is window tint a film or a dye?
Window tint is a film. Some people think there are other ways to tint windows, but there aren’t, not professionally anyway.
Is your window tint guaranteed?
Yes. Our workmanship and the window film we use are guaranteed for as long as you own the vehicle.
Will the tint turn purple?
No, our window film is guaranteed not to change color or turn purple.
Will there be any bubbles in the tint?
Absolutely not. No bubbles, no scratches, no creases, no ‘fingers’, no gaps, no joins, no dirt, no peeling, and no turning purple.
However, there will be a slightly mottled cloudy appearance for a couple of days while the film cures. This is normal until the moisture of the mounting solution is completely dry.
How long does it take to tint my vehicle?
The time it takes depends on the make and model of your vehicle and the condition of it’s windows, but as a rough idea, it usually takes 2 to 4 hours.
Does the tint go right to the edge of the glass?
It goes beyond the edge of the visible glass and right to the edge of the exposed side of a drop glass. So you will not see any gaps or edges at all.
Do you take the glass out?
No, removing the glass isn’t necessary.
Is the rear window done in several pieces, or just one?
Some window tinters aren’t skilled enough to heat shrink the film to fit curved rear windows, so they ‘splice’ two or more pieces together along the defroster lines. We don’t do it that way at Dr. Detroit’s, all rear windows are done in one piece by an experienced window tinter.
Will the film affect my rear window defogger?
No. Your rear window defogger will work just as well, or even better than before tinting the rear window.
Will I be able to see out okay at night?
Assuming that you have good vision, any tint shade lighter than ‘limo black’ should be fine. Limo black is fine in daylight, but it can make seeing out harder at night. For example, if you’re backing up in a very dark area with no street lights, then your reverse lights may not be bright enough for you to see well. In this case, rolling down the driver’s side window and looking out may be sufficient for you.
As a safety precaution, it’s always a good practice to walk around your vehicle to look for obstructions before backing up, whether or not you have tinted windows.
What do I use to clean my tinted windows?
Any normal ‘ammonia free’ glass cleaner and paper towels. Micro-fiber cloths wors even better than paper towels. Just be sure that you DO NOT use an abrasive glass polish.
Did you scratch my glass?
If your car is a few years old, there’s a good chance that there are small scratches on your glass. Dark window tint will make the scratches slightly more visible. People will often only notice these small scratches for the first time when they inspect their newly tinted windows.
Do you do any colored or custom tinting?
